Chocolate, Walnut, and Prune Torte

We had a bunch of leftover chocolate cake, and I remembered reading about a torte made with cake crumbs, walnuts, and dried plums, and I came up with this recipe. It's sticky and very flavorful, and you can throw it together quickly. It was so yummy I wanted to share it.

Chocolate, Walnut, and Plum Torte

2 cups chocolate cake crumbs (use any flavor cake-- it will still be good!)
3/4 cup sugar
3 eggs
pinch salt
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup dried fruit (I used plums and figs)
1-2 Tablespoons your favorite liqueur (or wine)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Butter a 9" cake pan.

Grind the dried fruit in a food processor. Add the walnuts to chop lightly.

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, sugar, and salt until they are pale yellow.

Fold in the cake crumbs and ground fruit and nuts into the egg and sugar mixture. Stir in 1-2 T of your favorite liqueur (or  wine, rum, or whiskey) and mix.

Decorate with walnut halves.

Pour into pan and bake about 30 minutes.

Cool for 5 minutes and remove from pan to cool completely.

This is delicious in thin slices with tea or wine.
